    Description

We want to differentiate between spaces with different purposes.

The core space that already exists is used for projects. It provides document types for documenting projects (that is: stakeholders). The space exists as long as the project exists.

The topic space is for collecting and updating information on a given topic. The space is created to persist and reflect the current level of knowledge on that topic. It is not important to track changes, but it is important that the information is up-to-date. It contains only documents and no records.

We now want to establish a third kind of space, the workspace. This space collects information for a short period of time (short is quite relative here) and signals that the information in this space is not updated to reflect the latest knowledge on the topic. Once all answers for questions on a topic are found, the information is transferred to topic spaces and the workspace space is discarded or archived.

Workspaces should make it easier to create spaces, work collaboratively and then discard the working documents and only saving the relevant information. Spaces have sometimes the problem that they contain documents and records which make them difficult to maintain. Workspaces are typically used for timeboxed investigations or for researches that take some time and require multiple authors to collaborate on vague problem statements.

Note that for iterations the Agile Planning Add-on provides a space that is bound to iterations, not to a specific topic.

The content of the three spaces contain basically almost the same document types, but they differ in purpose. This differentiation will make it easier to create maintainable spaces.
